Half of the
people in the world say that it is never a good idea to take people or things
for granted, the other half say that taking things for granted is a good thing.
They think you’re just born with all the good things in life and that you don’t
necessarily have to try in life to get everything you want. They think that
just because they might have it all that everyone does has it all. They assume that just because you are a happy
go lucky person means you were born with it, not that it grows on you from your
earlier years in life to now.
Juliana
Breines (Ph.D.) believes that it is okay to take things for granted, sometimes.
She states in her article Why It’s Okay
to Take Things for Granted (Sometimes) on the Psychology Today
website that, “We don’t stop to consider what a miracle it is that we were even
born in the first place or recognize that each moment could be our last”. She
then goes on to explain what meant when she said that, “That with this mindset
it can lead us to behave in carless ways, to mistreat the people we care about,
and to fail to say or do what is really in our hearts”. Taking something for
granted in typically defined as assuming, without question, that you will not
lose it, or at least not lose it anytime soon. Also means feeling a sense of
security and permanence about something that is not, in reality, secure or
permanent. Also stated by Juliana Breines in her article Why It’s Okay to Take Things for Granted (Sometimes) on the Psychology
Today website that, “In addition to taking our partners for granted, we
often take life itself for granted”. Which she means by avoiding the problems in
your relationship or in your lives because of the impact it has on you.
I think that
there are some things in life you can take for granted and some things in life
you shouldn’t take for granted. It really just depends on who you are as a
person and the environment you were raised in. I do not agree with some of the
people in the world who think that you are just born with all of the good
things in life and that you don’t really have to try to get everything you
want. To me that statement is so false unless your parents literally do
everything for you, then you’re good until you are on your own. But many people
don’t have it that easy, many of us have to work really hard for what we want
and actually gain it. To me those people that work hard for what they want are
the more genuine ones and the happier ones because they get to actually
experience life and see what it is all about. Those people are usually the ones
who don’t take many things for granted. In my opinion the people that take many
things for granted are the ones who “have it all” or the ones who think they
are better than everybody else. They don’t live by the moments; they live by
their wealth. They don’t get to truly experience life the way it is actually
supposed to be. People also believe that wealth and happiness are there with
you right when you’re born. To me wealth and happiness has to grow along with
you, you are born with happiness but learning and experiencing new things can
easily make you a genuinely happier person rather than someone who gets
everything handed to them.
